In November 2017, Sunday Assembly Canberra is focusing on the fun things in life. Our event's theme is Games.
Our guest speaker for November's event is James Mortensen, captain of the Australian national quidditch team. James led the Australian Dropbears to a 150–130 defeat of the United States at the 2016 World Cup in Frankfurt, Germany. James is currently a PhD candidate at ANU's National Security College.
Quidditch began as a fictional sport in author J. K. Rowling's Harry Potter books. However, enthusiasts started played the sport on American college campuses during the late 2000s, and the sport soon went global. Inspired by the flying wizards of Harry Potter, quidditch players play the game holding a broomstick between their legs. The International Quidditch Association hosts the IQA World Cup every two years.
As usual, we will curate a whole event around this theme of Games, including a reading, a personal reflection, and songs! (Please email us if you have a personal reflection on "games" that you would like to share with us.)
Sunday Assembly Canberra is a radically-inclusive, non-religious gathering held once per month. Our events are built around our motto: Live Better, Help Often, Wonder More.
Where: Majura Hall, Rosevear Place, Dickson. (Near the Majura Tennis courts).
When: Sunday 19 November 2017. Please arrive by 2:15 for a 2:30 p.m. start.

Interesting speaker + community + songs + tea & cake = Sunday Assembly Canberra.
If you are coming along to the assembly, we are always very grateful to anyone who can bring a home-baked or store-bought cake to share after the assembly!
