In July 2017, Sunday Assembly Canberra will discuss a humble little plant that has taken over the world. Our event's theme is Coffee.
Our guest speaker for July's event is Hugh Kelly, the current Australian Barista Champion. Hugh is the head trainer at Canberra's Ona Coffee, and won back-to-back titles Melbourne International Coffee Expo (MICE) in 2016 and 2017. Hugh will travel to Korea in late 2017 to represent Australia in the World Barista Championships.
Hugh will teach us his secrets for making a good cup of coffee, as well as describing the process of competing at the Australian Barista Championship. He will describe working within the 15 minute time allocation to prepare four espressos, four milk-based coffees and then four of his own signature drinks for four judges. Additionally, Hugh will discuss the ethical journey that he is on with Ona Coffee, as they work to improve the sustainability of their coffee bean supply chain.
As usual, we will curate a whole event around this theme of Coffee, including a reading, a personal reflection, and songs!
