Sunday Assembly Canberra is a radically-inclusive, non-religious gathering held once per month. In a nutshell:

Interesting speaker + community + songs + tea & cake = Sunday Assembly Canberra.

Unlike other events, the community we build is equally as important as the speakers we host. Between each monthly assembly we have social groups and events, to foster our intentional community.

Sunday Assembly's motto is Live Better, Help Often, Wonder More.

Here are our remaining Assembly dates for 2017:

  • 17 September - theme: Islands
  • 15 October - theme: Gratitude - featuring our AGM immediately afterwards
  • 19 November - theme: Games
  • 10 December

How to help us on Facebook - in less than a minute

We are always trying to get as many 'bums on seats' as possible at our events.

Believe it or not, you can help us to boost our events.

By RSVPing as 'going' or 'interested' to our events on Facebook, you help to widen the net of Canberrans who can see our events through their Facebook feed.

So please visit our Facebook events page, and choose 'going' or 'interested' to our events. While you are there, please directly invite your friends to the event, and 'like' or comment on some things. Facebook loves seeing all of this activity on our page.

Our tech geeks tell us that will really help us to be more visible on the web!

September 2017 Assembly

In September 2017, Sunday Assembly Canberra are surrounding ourselves with water. Our event's theme is Islands.

Our guest speaker for September's event is Dr Katerina Teaiwa, from the Australian National University. Associate Professor Teaiwa's main area of research looks at the histories of Australian and New Zealand phosphate mining in the central Pacific. She focuses on the movement of Banaban rock and the complex relations created by the mining, shipping, production and consumption of superphosphate and ensuing commodities. She also studies the ways in which indigenous Banabans use creative expression to make sense of this difficult history of the double displacement of land and people from their new home of Rabi Island in Fiji.

Sunday Assembly Canberra takes our monthly theme, and curates a whole event that examines the topic from different angles. As well as Dr Teaiwa's talk, we will feature songs (think: "My Island Home"), a reading, a personal reflection, followed by tea and cake. (Please email us if you have a personal reflection on "islands" that you would like to share with us.)

Sunday Assembly Canberra is a radically-inclusive, non-religious gathering held once per month. Our events are built around our motto: Live Better, Help Often, Wonder More.

Where: Majura Hall, Rosevear Place, Dickson. (Near the Majura Tennis courts).
When: Sunday 17 September 2017. Please arrive by 2:15 for a 2:30 p.m. start.
